Yes TWR, I think that you are losing your identity in the UK, the question being, are you losing it more quickly than anywhere else in the world and I think that the answer is YES.
It all revolves around the fear of Islamisation of the West, something that has been dismissed or denied by many Abers mainly of the left leaning Political persuasion.
What can the UK do about it? Not a lot it seems, it being a King Canute situation.
Beautiful morning here in South Wales, but not sure how long its going to last ! Wonderful Last night of the Proms yesterday...thanks goodness for the BBC !
But it always feels a little flat after the Proms...all that lovely music, and then it stops.
Britain has been changing steadily since I was born in 1953, and it didn't start changing then. Anyway, at what point on our history did our "identity" become a fixed point, from which we can measure all subsequent changes ?
Unlike many on here, I enjoy the multicultural aspects of Britain, at least when it comes to food ! Do we really want to go back to soggy cabbage and a mixed grill at a Bernie Inn ?
// The back-stabbing was India was divided in 1947.//
Both Gandhi ( great as he still is etc ) and Jinna realised in 1947 that if they didnt agree - they would both be given countries to govern - - -
so they didnt agree !
INdia was partitioned and they both got countries to govern
Whether or not the peoples were served by this is moot
There was a huge un-bombed industry in India - Japan had decided as a war-aim NOT to bomb any part of India so that when they invaded and kicked out the British .....and after 1947 - the industry in India ....... did nothing
One of the great imponderables .....
Mikey....when you were born in 1953, we had our first Chinese restaurant and it was the only one in a largish city (Peterborough) and quite a novelty.
No mosques....a few Italian immigrants, the occasional Caribbean, but no Muslims. In London during that decade, still no mosques, but multicultural restaurants had developed......the occasional Muslim in the East End.
I would say that it was in the 70's that our "identity" was started to become eroded.
Liverpool for example had a huge chinese population up to 1920
hundred thousand ...
until there was a White Slave scandal and they all upped sticks and left
( and now there are none - OK a few thou )
PP, I may have misconstrued the tone of the OPer, but i did rather get the impression that he was referring to Islamisation, bearing in mind previous posts by TWR. But, I will read up re. the British Empire.
