Well I have not been on this site very long but I get the drift now,  Only happy posts are allowed!!  I made a honest comment with no swearing or nasty stuff about greedy people (see food and drink) and the worlds poor and it was removed.

I didn't see your post so I can't comment, but please don't be discouraged. There are lots of unhappy people on AB, particularly on News, where they draw users' attention to the outrageous nature of modern life. Misery is one of the great motors of AB!

Thanks jno,  I am a bit discouraged by some of the attitudes here because I am Brit born & bred close to London but I have been living abroad for years now (sort of africa) and I think I have no axe to grind for the poor of the 3rd world as such, but you know the unhappy people you mention here are unhappy for such small reasons compared to the real misery which exists in the vast majority of the world, and they are so wastefull with resources but they just don't want to know about it.

I suppose thats just humans for you. (diskworld quotation)

it's always good to get another perspective on things. I certainly don't know why such a post should be banned, disagreements on AB are pretty common and unless they descend into personal abuse they're not usually touched. Anyway, please keep trying, there are lots of thoughtful and well-spoken users on AB.
Why jno, what a surprise to read your wise words of sincere encouragement, keep it up!
i'm intrigued qapmoc where do you live - sort of africa?  Surely where ever it is, it either is or isn't?!
Although I didn't see your reply qapmoc it does sound as though it may have been removed because it contradicted what was  a very lighthearted thread. Perhaps you saw something that wasn't there?
Question Author

hi bobble,  well you know the thing is that Africa is defined as the the big bit (ie the Continent itself) + the small bits around it (various islands extending pretty far out into the Indian and Atlantic Ocean's)  I live on one of the small bits in the Indian Ocean these days.

Question Author

Hi Cetti,  yeah it was a lighthearted thread from some point of view, BUT somebody started a thread with

GREEDY: I was just wondering how greedy I was, I have nothing to compare it to!

and I gave a simple comparison with the Pakistan earthquake survivors with nothing left,   not lighthearted but true anyway.

Don't get too upset qapmoc. Sometimes there are posts and posters that make us want to scream or wonder what planet they inhabit, but if you want to stay here (and I hope you do) and remain sane then I've found that avoidance is the best plan. Just pick the topics you enjoy and ignore anything that threatens to push up your blood pressure - it's just not worth it.
Good Morning qapmoc, totally agree with Cetti stick around and continue to post in the topics you like and enjoy, I'm sure you will have plenty to contribute!

qapmoc, ah, the 'sort of' makes more sense now!  Sounds beautiful and exciting, and a world away from AB!  Don't all the queries on here seem mundane, or do you come on here to touch base with 'back home'? What do you do on the island workwise?  I've gone off thread here, sorry - I'm even more intrigued now!

Hi again bobble,  I am an electrical engineer although you get to put hands on all kinds of stuff here ultra-modern and old, I do lot of troubleshooting/upgrading on old stuff you would not find in europe now, it gets me out and about all over the island.

yes it is nice weatherwise, never less than 12c in winter or more than 38c in summer, humidity good, although we do get hurricanes in summer, great beaches, palm trees, warm blue water, boats floating offshore, etc.. etc.... but you know, my place is only 11Km from the sea and a beach a bit nicer shall we say than southend beach, but I have not sat on it for the last 5 months, my office is at sea level and 250Mtrs from the ocean but I never seem to go there, always seems to be something to do and we will go next weekend!!

I have to admit though that I sure dont miss scraping ice off my car at 6:00am in the dark to go to work.

Regards

on the other hand, you don't get so many tsunamis in East Cheam.
