I know, I don't wear a halo and was barred for trying out the swear filter, but tonight I was disgusted by two videos shown in the Chatterbank by nedflanders and have reported the question. I've a pretty high threshold for fun and stuff, but am outraged that somebody thought it was an acceptable place to post videos like this.

I hope you make an example of them, I thought they were a decent poster, but I'm really disgusted by this posting. I hope you remove the videos as quick as possible. How dare they post these videos on a family site.

hey snappy, chill out. I know you're upset but please calm down. You are probably capable of making your argument without resorting to abuse x x
Question Author

Read the posts. I'm not abusing anyone.

And don't tell me to chill out, I'm really upset. You don't know me, and don't know how I feel.

Why does everyone turn against me no matter what I do?

Have you seen the videos, what do you think?

Are they ok for a family site?

Good clean fun?

I think not.

And please don't think I'm falling out with you, but come on......

fine, forget it, get everyone's backs up, even the people who are trying to be nice. It is possible to make your point in a sensible way,
Question Author

You know I didn't mean it like that.

I'm sorry if I offended you, btw you still didn't answer my question.

What do you think of the videos?

I didn't find the videos amusing either and I'm not sure why they were posted. It was not appropriate for a site such as this. No doubt there is much worse to be found on the Internet but what was the point of posting the links? A helecopter crashing into the sea is not what I call funny and someone bouncing their head off the pavement isn't something to laugh at either.

Hi Snappy, yeah well the helico is nothing much anyway and the skateboard thing is not nice,  but hey if some kid sees the skate board accident and thinks wow I had better wear a helmet if that can happen to me, then it might be a good thing?

Dont forget that life is dangerous and if you hide from that fact you are not doing yourself any favours when push comes to shove.

Question Author

Yes, life has been hard and dangerous, but if you truly believe these videos prove anything then you are sadly mistaken, please remember they were posted for entertainment purposes, not to prove a point, when push comes to shove, as you put it.

Question Author

Oh, and qapmoc, why was the helicopter crash nothing much anyway, don't you realise it would've been full of people.

A chinook is a badly flawed people carrier in the sky.

Grow up man! The internet can show real life. Don't become so desensitised that it means nothing to you.

Has no-one here lost people under tragic circumsatnces?

If not, then count yourselves lucky.

I don't see anything abusive about your post snappy, bit dramatic, yes, but not abusive.

Abuse would be throwing insults or making threats

I agree that it may stop other kids doing stuff like that, but i doubt it - i suspect they'll use it for titilation, as did ned

they are gross ans not appropriate for this site, but he did put a warning...

Hi snappy, yeah I agree that the reason for putting them i.e entertainment was probably not in the best of taste especially with the comments that accompanied them.

re the helico crash  I have seen loads of stuff like this happen and military accidents are so frequent that is is nothing special and happens all the time.  yes people may be injured or killed although in this case I doubt it as there were two outrider boats following especially for the purpose orf rescue (it looked like a training flight to me)

re the skate board joko, yes but even if they use it for titillation it will still make some kind of impression about the dangers involved in doing totally stupid stunts without protection.

Question Author

Well, glad you thought it was a training flight, that makes it so much better, because people don't die on training flights. And smashing into the sea is just the norm...(sorry you've seen it so many times - I still don't want to see it)

and no, I don't agree that the skateboarding vid will make an impression. I really don't - Thinking back, it wouldn't have stopped me. Kids think they are invincible...sorry

Wow - someone else with an attitude as lairy as mine!  I see how I must come across now! *blushes*

What on EARTH happened then?

Did ned make a thread to say "Hey guys look at these videos" and add some links?

If they come with a warning that the content is not suitable for children or those of a sensitive nature, then I don't think there is a problem, although I agree such links shouldn't really be posted here.

When we play the name game I can't join in because my namesake is a porn star, so I don't offer the link with a warning.  But if others want to do that sort of thing, then with a warning, I don't see why not.

The internet isn't exactly a nice place, and any young eyes will quickly find (probably cos they're looking) these sorts of things.  Plus I really don't think we have that young a clientelle (can't spell when sneezing"!) on here!

Here endeth the message.

Question Author

january_bug. I understand what you mean, but the warning wasn't much of one and it's not much of a defence. I was banned for trying out the swear filter. Do you think it would've been acceptable if I'd written (if you don't like swears then look away now....)

No, I didn't think you would.

...and did you see the videos?

If not, then you're not really in a position to judge. As I've said, I've got a pretty wide threshold for fun, but that wasn't fun.

They have been removed, btw. Just in case you didn't realise...by the AB ed. Now go and tell them not to look!

Question Author
Oh and I'm 27, not a child.
Question Author

...so don't patronise me.

You don't like it, (I read your posts about paternity leave)

..and neither do I.

I really dont think Bug was being patronising :-)

No, I wasn't meaning to be patronising, but as it came across that way, I apologise.

I know a warning isn't much of a defence, and I agree that you had every right to report the post and to complain to the editor.  I didn't see the videos, no, but I thought this was about the principal of non-family things on a family site.  The Ed has put in place processes to allow for the speedy removal of inappropriate material and I think that that is enough.  But that's just my view.

And what I meant by the attitude thing was simply that I can see that you, like me, feel very passionately about certain things.  Like me though, when you're making your point, you come across as aggressive.  I don't mean to, and I don't suppose you do either.

Again,  I apologise for seeming patronising, I honestly didn't mean to.  I hope you'll accept my apology.

PS - I did realise it had been removed, that's why I I asked for confirmation about what had happened.

Question Author

Cheers. I was really quite upset. Better now and want to move on.

Thanks for taking the time to answer though.

Question Author

Like you say, when you're passionate about something...

Especially when you type stuff, It doesn't always come out how you want....

Oh well.

Have a toffee.

It's cool!  I relaly do know how you feel!  I get REALLY upset by comments and attitudes on here, and I don't always react with the grace I wish I would!  But then sometimes it's good to vent on here, in order to keep calmer and nicer for the "real" people in our lives.

Anyway, like you said, let's not dwell!  :-)
