The "greenie" category would end up full of questions about all the other subjects. What if someone has a parenting question and wants to ask on this forum? They might be put off by this segregation, or would be put off by stupid answers from some of the idiots only joining to cause mayhem.
So many people end up in this site, and loving it, after stumbling across the site when looking for genuine information. Such users, the sort that surely should be encouraged, are, I think, likely to be put off by such a policy.
I really really agree with you that SOMETHING needs to be done to sort out the problem with greenies, and especialy with regards people getting banned, so just getting a new user name. If only there were some simple solution like (temporarily) banning the IP address from using the site, as well as the username. Then someone would have to be REALLY keen to get through. No idea how this would work, or if it would even be possible!!!
Anyway, in conclusion, genuine people might understand, but I think they would see the site as a closed forum and not hang around for two weeks to get let in. But you're right... SOMETHING needs to be done!!
That's true.
I'm just playing devil's advocate really. I mean, if you got SO sick of the greenie idiots that have been around recently, that you decided to find another, similar internet forum, would you choose to join one that put you in a holding pen and "vetted" you for a few weeks until you were deemed "worthy" of joining in?
I also have a feeling that there are some losers out there who would actually go through all that just to come to wind people up.
I do wish something could be done. I'm also sick of some behaviour that tends towards going round and offending people left right and centre, and then saying "sorry" and then starting it again the next day. Tireseome and it detracts from the site.
I suppose it could be argued that genuine newbies would be more put off by the current situation in CB, than a vetting zone, and perhaps a sense of "exclusivity" might make "good" potential users more inclined to want to join. On that point, I think your arguement has a lot of strength!
I'm not meaning to be a pain here, as I really do agree with you in principle, I just thought that bouncing some ideas around might help us reach the best possible solution. :-)
Hi netti, jan_bug,
Let me just say your AB analysis puts me to shame. We will have to start paying you consultancy fees if you keep this up!
Hmm....let me think about this one....we will lock up the Greenies in a secret newbie dungeon where they will only be allowed out after we have determined their genuine-ness (sorry, its late in the day!). While in the dungeon they will only be allowed to ask and answer questions relating to reality TV programmes, music in adverts and bank sort codes. I love it!
But it smells like extra work for the Heavies and I fear for the resulting psychies of the non-green users after they are allowed to "interact with them" with impunity. Ever heard of the Stanford Prison Experiment?

Hi mullein - I have made the point in another post that I'll only be replying to greens in cb if I'm sure who they are. That said there's nothing stopping someone trying to impersonate you unfortunately. However I do recognise a lot of Aber's 'style' & yours is an easy one - and I mean that in a nice way!!
