I have just noticed a user with the name GingerMinge...surely not suitable for a family site.

If they were old enough to know what it means then I doubt it would bother them . If they are too young to know what it means, then there isn't a problem. Must admit not the sort of name I would choose.
no problem until the kids start dropping it into conversations with the vicar, anyway. I don't think there's a facility for reporting usernames, though, otherwise b*ggernuts wouldn't be around. I wonder if she's any relation to gingerflaps - haven't seen her on AB for a while.
Was there not a cunnyfunt for a while?I think they are funny and dont offend me.I agree if kids are old enough to understand they are probably using the words anyway.Bet they could teach us a thing or two.I find some of the responses more unsuitable for a family site.Guess if you have you have kids you would have to keep an eye on what they are browsing through because its also an adult site.
agree, not suitable for a family site
I have to admit - I have no idea what that means!
have to disagree with drisgirl. Kids may know the words but think they are not meant to be used in public. Then they see them on a 'family' website and figure it's ok to use them after all. Just because words exist doesn't mean they have appear on AB.

Had to explain that one to my nine year old and as we're all red heads, I think my cheeks matched my hair colour. She giggled.

I think for a family website there has been a lot worse written especially when CB was on the go.(No offence to ex-cbers BTW).

Love your comment Drusilla - made me giggle as well!

Honest - I am not trawling for examples but just happened upon this one in B & S under What makes you go ICK - 1st reply - how do you explain the word har**n then?I put the wee asterisks in my self.:).Promise not to keep this going - just an example of which I am sure there are many.

CHECK OUT THIS LINK and check the name of this highschool girl on the fifth row down, far right. !!! Hilarious!

Grrrrr just spent 5 minutes trying to work out what 'word' spelt 'har**n' was!!!

Then looked up the question. Bl**dy 'Sun' readers, it's Two words. Scchheeessh !

Stevie - I was quoting verbatum (not a bad word for a Sun reader - no idea what it means though!!)

One-Nil this week I make it:)

I have to admit, I was confused about the word "****" on here, someone used it in a reply (about themself) and it got starred out, but, as I pointed out, it is used in Wuthering Heights!! Thank God the robots didnt censor that! tee hee
Like estie - I don't know the rude meaning of this word. Thought it meant redhaired.
Drusilla, if you're still reading this thread, what do you think? I remember you've mentioned your regrets at having to bar your children from reading parts of AB. As I said, I don't like the idea of a site like this 'legitimising' bad language for young people; but it's been a long time since I had young children, and I'm aware that my standards may be out of date. Would you prefer user names like this one to be blocked, or do you think that, on the whole, it's better to have them and explain to kids what they mean?
Ahhhhh, drisgirl now I understand your confusion!
Allow me to help you.
In the English language, on and hard are TWO words, plural, (as in more than one of).
Those of us endeavouring to fill in the blanks on your SINGLE (i.e. only one) word, were labouring under the false pretence that such a rude word existed, when it does not. (Please feel free to invent your own however).
Please do not feel embarrassed about your little mistake; I am sure I for ONE will keep it to myself.

On the subject of keeping score, I would advise against it for a number of reasons:
a) Its not a competition
b) B) Im not sure numbers are your thing
c) C) I wouldnt want to see you get discouraged and throw in the towel (again) as I do so enjoy our little jousts.

If you insist upon it though, dont worry Ill let you know when you reach one. x

I of course know it is indeed 2 words.I was only quoting what had been posted.Sounds the same anyway even if you say it to yourself or out loud whether its all one word or two.

Stevie - Do YOu hAVe a PRoblEM WiTh YoUR UPper CASe ANd loWEr CasE - or were you just showing off that you can use both at once to re-inforce it was a different point you were making? x

I'm very old and I don't know what it means either.

On the other hand, perhaps I'm too young to know. If only !.
