I used this word in a reply and couldnt understand why it was asterisked out.I posted another two replies to explain to ABers on the post what I was meaning to say.It just didnt dawn on me that such an innocious word word would be baaned.I'm laughing about it but how do we get round this with having to resort to @ etc to overcome it?

The thing is you can use fanny which is American for bum and is used more frequently than tawt.Or maybe you cant - I'll soon see.

I've had two sets of asterisks in the same post. It was a reply to a question about plumbing. I included the word 'water' and failed to notice that the previous word ended with the letter 't'. (So, I fell foul of the same prohibited word which is referred to here). Unfortunately, in the same post, I referred to a 'stop tap' using an alternative second word which rhymes with 'dock' - so I got 'asterisked' for that as well!

Recently, three times in one week, I've posted links, from well-respected news organisations, where the URL has included the word 'story' immediately followed by 'id='. This has led to asterisks deleting my 'anti-semitic' links!

There is a famous story of Robert Browning misinterpreting a mediaeval poem that used the T-word with regard to nuns - thinking it referred to an item of their apparel, he went on to innocently use it in one of his own poems. Incidentally, you'll also get asterisked if you use any phrase or place name incorporating the Latin word for 'with'...

BTW - I have just remembered that sometimes an American ABEd is on with the result you would not find the word 'fanny' offensive. Apart from the fact it has exactly the same meaning as tawt (backwards) it is also used in Scotland and I suspect the rest of the UK as a derogotary/light hearted term.against males.As in shut up you f****.Or whilst watching football and the opposition look like they have scored but havent - then the opposing fans would shout 'sit down you f*****'

Dont ban it though because I wouldnt want to insult our American cousins who visit this site.

Look into tawt tho (not literally) because that is the most perplexing.You got round Scunthorpe and Arsenal didnt you - or did you (away to find out).
