I joined AB just before CB stopped, but never really got involved it it, and now wish I had. I have really enjoyed all the questions that have been on B&S recently, and love all the banter that goes on in the sports section. This place would be a lot duller if it were purely a fact-based question and answer forum.

A bit of praise for our current AB Ed. The one we had before would not allow any chat at all and kept removing postings all over the site. Our nice Ed now has a lot more sense and realises that people will chat once they get to know each other and as long as it doesn't get out of hand, she doesn't interfere. Much more sensible and leads to a much happier site.

An essential feature of any site like this (I think anyway) is that a lot of posters are looking for a bit more than a plain answer to a question. The social interaction is just as important. Another brilliant place where this happens is on the BBC food and drink message boards. Most foodie questions end up as delightful 'chat'.

(They even thrive on MasterChef quotes !!!)

Wow, loads of old name here! It's like a mini CB reunion! What a nice way to start the weekend :)

If this site was merely a mechanical question and answer site...there wud be less than 100 people using it ...and it wud fold. The problem on the site is the News section, which aswellas being mind numbingly borin is just a jungle full of lions and tigers.

A B&S & Sport (Football) "less formal" section each wud be a VERY good idea...they wud cause the retention of a lot of people on this site, who now and again may answer some of the more formal questions and post questions themselves.

Whiskeysheri is getting unfairly blamed for asking lots of informal questions. If she were reprimanded either by the editor or other AB users I think there wud be a major vote with their feet by users...walking onto an alternative site, closing their accounts here. Her questions on B&S are the most popular ones on the whole site and have got everyone interested on this site.

there are lots of new and old users on AB that post whatever answers and indeed questions they like, those ex CBers (and they know who they are) have been there done that and now are the integral heart and soul of AB. it will carry on and new users will come and go
