Have a notice which says "Try using a search engine for lyrics"

9 times out of 10 if someone posts an answer with specific lyrics in it, the lyrics can be found on Google.

wheres the fun in that though? In a way, answerbank is a search engine - you put in your q and the answers come up - and you get a bit of friendly banter along the way, or maybe recommendations of other songs you might like if you like that one. Whats so different about using google than ab? people prefer different search engines, thats all

I must admit, I regularly print off lyrics from Google - it's so quick & easy.

Everyone to their own tho'.

The difference is the response rate. Not all the time someone will answer your question on here whilst a real search engine is instant.

Also people tend to repeat questions that have already been answered and it get's rather tedious and irritating when having to post "this question has already been answered here - link to original question"

And I've never seen someone give a recommendation for a question about lyrics on here ?

Well on that idea there would have to be a similar notice in every Topic

A vast majority of the question asked here can be solved by going through search engines etc

I for one though dont mind posting the answers back..sometimes I do a bit of Googling etc...no harm at all

I always Google before asking a question, unless it's asking about personal experiences or of a similer nature.

*similar even!

Ed, let's do away with AB!!......coz if 198x suggestion implies this is what we should do.....

198x I'd been looking for a song title for ages, didn't know any lyrics to this song, just a few words....found AB put those few words up in Music and was answered within 10mins...

Ed, briliant site... :)

if it get tedious and irritating posting links to previous answered questions, may i suggest that you just dont do it? That would prevent it becoming tedious for you. Not everyone is on here all the time, so if a question has been asked beforethen it might be on another page and unseeable at first glance. When you put your question in it comes up with a list of similar questions but not always the one you want answered

example: in adverts there is a post asking if the sony ad with the coloured balls is real - if you put that q in it dosent come up with the already asked question. However i happen to knpow it was asked a few months ago, and a trawl in "search" found it - but a casual enquirer wouldn't have seen it

you also mention that 9 times out of ten google has the lyrics - what about the other 1 time out of ten, or the times when you search in google and it directs you here (thats how i found this place in the first place: a failed google search).

I guess if things like response rate are important to you (ie getting 1000's of pages of answers) then google is the way to go. Personally i prefer to have my answers from real people, and i dont really mind if i have to wait a bit!

Plus..... 8 out of 10 cats said their owners prefer Answerbank and not Google!!!!!!!!

It seems I've hit a raw nerve here with frequent chatters.

Don't go over the top * BEZ * I didn't imply that at all, it's not like I've said "do not post any questions on AB, instead use a search engine for all enquiries you may have and cut out the AB middle man/woman"

All it is is a little notice at the top just like it says "for any questions about adverts, please use the adverts topic" but nobody does.

Well I thoroughly enjoy searching Google & participating in AB too.

It doesn't mean one is better than the other, just what suits at the time! ;o}

lol maybe you have struck a raw nerve :-)

maybe the answer is in in your last response - "a little notice at the top just like it says for any questions about adverts please use the adverts section BUT NOBODY DOES"

maybe the ed thinks he/she will probably be wasting their typing time putting in a google search notice!!

Maybe the ab aren't allowed to promote google? or maybe they would if google paid them to?

I kind of agree with others 198x, if it bothers you, ignore it. Way too much moaning and way too little live and let live mentality shown on this site of late, it's getting tiresome and some days you read a few posts and just wonder where all the nice folk have gone, cos at times they seem to have been scared away by Grumpies having a collective Big Pants Week.

Additionally, in reference to the specific point you make, there was a very recent post from someone who knew some words from the song they wanted to find, but they weren't in the right order. I recognised the song immediately and posted the answer, but if you googled the words as per the question, you didn't get the right song (I know, cos I've just tried). As you say, only 9 times out of 10...

So really, it's nice you've got so little in your life to bother you that these things become worth posting about, think yourself very lucky :o)

Well like the topic's called it's only a suggestion, and kazza the notice would be search engine not Google :P *don't take that the wrong way, I don't want an arguement*

I'll admit I'm a pedant.

lol join the club!

lol, me too. x
