Sorry dot, for a while there, I thought you had inside knowledge or advance information.
Incidentally I fully agree with you regarding the gambling section. Also, this is supposed to be a child-friendly site and I didn't think they were allowed to gamble. At this rate, the ED will be offering a smoking section next, and not just for the Marlbro' questions!

Only if the tobacco companies are willing to pay for the advertising, I suspect, gen2.
I don't object to people gambling in principle and I have the occasional flutter myself but I do think it is socially irresponsible to have a gambling section on AB. Gambling addiction is apparently increasing already with deleterious effects for the people affected, their families and, as dot points out, society. This new AB Section could encourage addiction and should have been a non-starter. (Much like some of the horses I've backed.)

So....gambling is OK ...we can all lose our shirts at the bookies ..but woe betide anyone who complains about the Marlboro people ..Oh dear that would seen as advertising the dreaded cigarettes. So ..you can either smoke yourself to death or gamble yourself bankrupt and end up underneath the arches .
Double standards spring to mind .A section for gambling but no sections for Hobbies and pastimes ,sub sections in B&S or Q&Por any of the other sensible things people have asked for time and time again .Money talks.

i cant be gambling my life savings away. what would i use to buy my fresh marlboro lights (with that original and distinctive flavour of sweet virginia tobaccy) with.
heavens forbid billy hills offer me a lucrative lucky 15 on which i could lose a fortune. in which case i would dearly need to go and sit on a park bench and ponder how my life fell apart. all the while contemplating the smooth fresh taste of phillip morris's finest, (good for you, make the opposite sex like you, while the govt taxes you to death for the pleasure), woodbines.

Gambling is an addiction ..much like smoking,I used to work in the licenced trade and have seen first hand what gambling can do to people and their loved ones. For AB to promote this sort of thing ,as far as I am concerned is wrong.I can concur with the Editor on the Marlboro thing as this would be seen as advertising cigarettes ....so why do the powers that be think that gambling is less harmful....it isn't .If you have never seen someone win a grand on the Derby and promise his wife and kids the world only to lose the lot five minutes later on a non starter at Kempton Park then think again.
