manipulation and lies
19 Answers
I am seriously troubled by recent developments on this website.
In September, site users were offered the opportunity to participate in surveys in exchange for monetary compensation. They were asked to submit many personal details to you. Since then, as far as I know, not a single ABer has received a penny. AND now you've implemented essentially the same survey concept, but without compensating anyone. Does anyone else find this extremely disturbing??
BTW, I am not in the UK, and so would not be eligible for payment anyway, but I am nonetheless seriously troubled by this. Just why did they lie and manipulate us just to get your personal information?

A new feature has been added to the AnswerBank! We are now offering ABers the chance to receive cash in exchange for their views.
So, how does this work? Once you are registered to this feature, the AnswerBank will occasionally contact you to answer a survey. We will contact will be via email or text message asking you to come online and complete a survey. Surveys could be on anything from pet ownership to politics. Once you complete all the questions on the survey, you will be paid into a virtual account. Once you reach 50 in your virtual account, you will be sent a cheque for that amount. You will be invited to take part in selected surveys that may be based on your interests, sex, age, and location. There is no obligation to take part in any survey and you may log in and un-register your interest at any time from your profile.
For all the existing AB users that would like to take part, you can register for this new feature by selecting the tick-box Yes, Id like to be paid for my views in your AB Profile. Choose the topics you feel are your areas of specialist knowledge and you will be eligible to take part in future AnswerBank surveys. I'm not sure I'd go as far as to call it all "manipulations and lies" but i do know I've definitely been very dischuffed with how the site has been going lately.
I find it extremely off putting when any criticism towards how it's run are met with deletions, so much so that I've decided to ignore all the threads added to categories by the editorial team.
I've also removed my details from the survey thing on my profile.

Before you go mouthing off why dont you just read the most recent ed's blog which tells you exactly what is happening with the pay for opinion thingy and why they are not yet doing it. PLUS these new questions are debateble subjects not something an ABer can provide a factual or definite answer to, this is the type of answer someone would pay for, surely that is obvious from the way the question is worded. If you dont like em dont take part in them and dont get worked up about it either - simple as!
Sorry didn't mean to snap but everyone is making such a fuss about the whole thing and if people dont like it then just stay out of the posts. I had an opinion tis morning so I posted. Tomorrow I may not have so I wont post but I wont be starting threads ranting about the idea, they seem really popular 1 of them has 25 responses today. Apologises again
I don't think it could considered to be making a fuss, there are alot of members who participate on this site in many categories on a regular basis and it is just like anything else, opinions differ, but noone can tell another person not to express it and manners do cost nothing.
Plus there is more debate on these pink threads about the reasons behibnd them than the actual topic in some instances.

Seriously troubled and disturbing?
I would disagree. Manipulative, perhaps, but then it is our choice to come and go, we are not forced to remain or contribute.
I never signed up to the give us all your details so we can send them to our marketing dept thing anyway as I truly doubted the intention or endeavour of AB to part with any cash. One simple way to express your frustration is to avoid and ignore the pink posts, or leave altogether.
What I find quite troubling (but not in a serious way) is how you only give 3 stars to those who agree with you.
