i asked AB ASKS, others have asked, noone has been given an answer, PLEASE can you explain briefly what the problem is with the Recent Posts box? I know we have managed without it all this time, but now it is there it is missed when it is malfunctioning.

is it true to say that there is a subliminal quality about the recent posts box, we think it is working okay because it s there and looks to be working, but in fact it is very subtly not working. Only posts in the subs are being shown not any from the main categories. Is this a cunning editorial device?

Perhaps one of you would be kind enough to explain to me what it is there for at all. If one is reading or answering questions...surely what we're here for...why would one wish to know that "0 minutes ago" someone provided an answer elsewhere? It can be so fast-moving at times - where all four such responses were "0 minutes ago" - that it is effectively useless.
This is a genuine question, by the way, not a whinge.

I find I use it a lot, Quizmonster; it brings to my attention posts in categories that I would normally never enter. It also helps replicate the experience of a live conversation when you reply to someone who has only just posted (without of course descending into mere chat); though of course that isn't a necessary attribute of a Q&A site.

Well I just don`t know what my imposterer is on about. There are times when I just dispair of the idiotic stream that comes out of that hole which she laughingly calls a mouth but us others in Wigan call something different!

No, if it is a permanent amendment to it's operating status, that only posts in the subs. go thru it, then we know that the main cats. are excluded. if it is malfunctioning and due for repair, then things will be fine as soon as that happens. Either way, i doubt i shall say 'oh....right'... like a vague person might.

Thanks for that response, J. I see your point, but still can't imagine I might start doing the same, mainly because I actually never enter categories - the vast majority of the 80-odd including sub-categories - that I never enter, if you see what I mean! Cheers, nevertheless.
