My computer is exactly (to the second) in sync with the atomic clocks both in America and Switzerland. However I am 2 minutes behind the rime on this site? Why is that?
(with apologies for having also posted this on Games and puzzles - I will pay more attention next time)
There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.
Dot, The sky clock can be up to 15 minutes out depending upon where the earth is in its orbit around the sun. It is also difficult to get a reading on cloudy days or at night. You also have to ensure that vandals haven't moved or damaged your gnomon.
ash24, 2 minutes is pretty good for AB. In the past we have had to tolerate much greater time warps. In particular, it was 7 minutes adrift for a couple of weeks about 18 months ago. Greater discrepancies have occurred, but were short lived. Whatever AB uses to generate these distortions in time, it must be unstable at greater shifts, but this 2 minute diference has existed for a few months so far and seems fairly stable.
my sky clock is never wrong cos the programmes always start on time, but just to be sure i have built my own flux capaciter out of an old washing up liquid bottle, two toilet roll tubes and an empty after eight box........oops, well it is empty now........
