I don't like the ending, too despairing. The writer didn't like it either; it was Polanski's idea. From the point of view of someone who'd lost his mother in Auschwitz it probably didn't actually seem gloomy at all - after all, nobody dies.

Dak, there's a reason why Gromit got the title slightly wrong...
