Speed versus Private Messages
13 Answers
This isn't a moan, rather an enquiry.
I was experiencing AB as chronically slow, to the point it really didn't seem worth preserving. However Loftylottie's post below mentioned using firefox. I did and the result was fantastic in terms of speed. However, I have lost the use of Personal Messages.
Is this a consequence of switching over or is it just coincidence and this facility has been removed?

Julie, Firefox is an alternative to Internet Explorer. It's also better for cutting and pasting things on AB than IE is.

it's also better at fitting things onto pages - often printing something out from IE it would cut off text from the right hand side. But I haven't upgraded to IE7 as many people have, and that might be better, I don't know. Anyway, you can have both on your screen and jut click on whichever one you want to use to browse at any particular moment.
My apology for the original question as it is incorrect and misleading.
The part about firefox is true, but the loss of Private messages is incorrect.
I think the nonsense I wrote can be attributable to me being a vegetarian that doesn't eat dark chocolate; therefore I don't have a fit and agile mind.
Also should read persevering rather than preserving.
Is there no equivalent policing of posts to check that words are used in the correct context as there is with grammar?

The whole idea of the internet is that anyone can use it regardless of what computer, operating system and browser software they are using. There are agreed standards for coding, and if these are applied, everything works fine. If the code used is not to the agreed format, things stop working for some people.
When you operate a site, you are supposed to test it across different platforms and browsers to be sure it is working properly. This is a painful exercise and very labourious, but it has to be done.
Only when it is fully tested and all the bugs have been sorted out, should it be released as a beta version. The Beta is meant to be the nearly finished version, and is the final test before going live.
The Beta was not anywhere near finished enough to be release.
