If you are signed off sick then you can just write to them handing in your required notice. Any further period of continuous sickness will count in your notice, i.e. if you are signed off for another four weeks and you give four weeks notice you will not have to return to work and they will still have to pay you (if you are getting paid whilst you are sick).
ie. You don't have to wait until you are fit to go back to work and then hand in your required notice.
Very unfair another-view. We don't know the circumstances of aaronfraser's sickness or the new job offer.
I hope you enjoy your new job Aaron.

You are such an understanding and thoughtful person another view!! You have no idea why aaron has been off sick, or of his circumstances. I can only hope that you remain healthy all your working life and never have any problems. I feel sorry for your colleagues if they are sick and have such a workmate such as you.
I have had to have several long periods of sickness leave during some of my working life, but unlike some I have worked when I can and never resorted to invalidity benefits (which I could have got). We are not all blessed with good health and many of us that have problems do our very best.
I am really glad the majority of people have more understanding and are more realistic than you are. I can only assume that you are very young with no experience of life. If I am wrong then I feel very sad that you have such a blinkered attitude.
