Has been pulled. Really not sure why, but suspect he of multiple names (Shawnee, etc) has reported it using all his aliases. There was nothing in there which was offensive.

If it was you that pulled it Ed. please let me know why?

Unfortunately, we seemed to have moved from a site which, in recent times, has resembled a verbal rugby scrum to a site on which any contentious comments are removed forthwith......the trouble is that we are still finding our way around what exactly the editorial team will and won't accept.

I feel that there are many long-term users who believe that they have identified the ways in which this site can be improved and can't quite comprehend why the ed and his team will brook no discussion or argument on these ideas.

The poll is just a sop to these suggestions..........

Shawnee has loads of user names Pickle, but I wonder too whether he/she is an AB insider. Strangely questions have disappeared before in similar circumstances after Shawnee, etc.has been 'outed'.

Normally I wouldn't post a question like this and would contact the Editor direct - but the Editor has said on many occasions that no reasons will be given if a question is pulled.

i didn't read the thread, but perhaps, like this one it wasn't a suggestion, therefore it was removed for being in the wrong category?

I dont mean to sound rude because TCL used to be very helpful in answering q's but all i see from him nowadays is moaning about stuff and threatening to leave if things arent changed to his liking - i cant remember the last time i saw him ask or answer a genuine question. If things are so unsatisfactory, why is he still here?

Bednobs, the other threads including one about voting for TCL as President (not a question) remain. I believe mine was removed for the reason I state. There are loads of postings in this section that are not suggestions.

I think TCL is still answering questions on this site in other categories, but not as frequently as he used to. I am not surprised.

And why should TCL leave if he finds things unsatisfactory. If we don't agree with something then we should be able to say so in a polite way and the right to expect a polite answer.

As i see it the editor gave tcln a warning , which then produced about 5 different threads saying exactly the same .
In the eds warning he told tcl if he repeatedly posted about the report feature they would be removed.
Tcl went on and on and on all weekend and got them removed.

Now we are seeing yet more and more posts and threads about something the ed has said wont be returning.

And now threads about threads about threads.


People cried out for editorial control and moderation.
Now it seems folk only want moderation on certain subjects and to pick and choose who and how people are moderated.


Thin end of the wedge.

Will the report situation be changed?
Ed has said no.

Is there any point going on and onm and on about it ?
Cant see it myself ?

Is there any point in moderation if dictated by a minority of users ?
Not really .


Will there be more threads on this same subject ?
Im almost certain of it.


BTW THIS ISNT A PERSONAL ATTACK ON TCL , AS IT WOULD APPLY TO ME OR ANYONE ELSE TOO.

I believe TCL gives give and accurate information on Benefits, Employment law and finance. I don't venture into those sections much. He has been on AB for years and has never caused any trouble.

i'm not suggesting he has to leave at all, just if he dosen't like the way the site is run, and looking back over posts he clearly hasn't liked things for a long long while, i just dont understand why one would over excite oneself by coming here just to be peed off by it?. this website is not run as a democracy, so having a polite say about something one dosent like dosent mean that either the person should expect a reply, or any handling at all, or expect to change things. there is no rule saying that the editors have to reply, politely or otherwise or accept people suggestions, or that they cant remove posts by anyone with an "r" in their username just because they feel like it.

I have posted this question because I believe (and hope) that the editor didn't remove it and a mutliple name user zapped it many times!

The report facility for answers has gone, perhaps the report facility for questions should go too. I personally would support the report facility disappearing altogether. That is what I intimated in my question that has now disappeared.

trouble is, "fair" is a very personal experience. what seems fair to me might not seem fair to you or them, so there will always be malcontents who think things could be done better (ie how they would do things themselves!)

You can't surely question the fairness of posts disappearing because of targetting by uses with multiple aliases. A system that gets rid of this can only be good.

Couldn't the same be said of report the answer button.

I think the ed was wrong to personalise the debate, but having given a decision on the matter there seems little point going on about it.
Nor do we know what went on behind the scenes. I would not expect the ed to disclose that information either.
At least this ed seems to be trying to do something about the problems on here, and no I do not have multiple user names nor am I related to the ed.
Increased moderation can only improve things, it has always been noticable that there is an increase in trouble makers after dark and at weekends

When I post a thread, I, rightly or wrongly, feel a little proprietorial over it.
Should that thread then be infested by someone telling the board about his bottom, maggots or the length of his todger, I feel that I (as thread owner) ought to be able to report that particular poster and have HIM removed rather than suffer the indignity of having my post and the on-topic responses withdrawn.
This function ought to be for the OP only. And it needn�t necessarily have to lead to the troll-poster being dungeoned unless the editorial team deem it in the best interests of the site to do so.
Of course, any OP is then at liberty to remove contrary responses on their thread and this will doubtless be done arbitrarily and unfairly..........but then anyone who has had a genuine response removed is perfectly at liberty to post their own thread where they will wield the axe..........
Troll OPers are still removed by the weight of offended reporters and I see no difference in the two systems.........If we can be trusted to remove offensive questions/questioners then that facility ought to extend to responses/responders.

Please can the editorial team explain in a calm and rational manner why this system will not be countenanced. You have received so many suggestions and requests for its reinstatement but all we have had is your assertion that ' it didn't work and won't be coming back'. Please could you do us the courtesy of explaining quite why ?

I have e-mailed this to the ed just in case this thread gets pulled. I'll let you know what happens.......

I can completely see your point Jackthehat. I obviously believe we should have the right to report answers on our threads that are not appropriate. However, unless the problem of multiple aliases is solved then this will be abused.

Until we know that the above problem is solved, surely it would be better to remove the facility for users to report either questions or answers themselves and just contact the editor (or his team) to get them removed (If we could be assured that is of a prompt response)

Jack you're obviously missing the point.The report option was used by long standing members doing what loft lotty is saying has happened to these threads.Personally i think the threads removed recently were removed because of flogging a dead subject.
the REPORT OPTION IN THE PAST WAS USED BY SMALL GROUPS , CLIQUES IF YOU LIKE , TO REMOVE POSTERS THAT WERENT IN WITH THEM , THE EDITOR CAN TELL THIS FROM WHO REPORTED , SO THEREFORE A PATTERN HHAS BEN SHOWN.
tHE REPORT IOS A BAD IDEA , EMAIL THE ED OR CONTACT HIM AT BOTTOM OF PAGE , THEN LET HIM DECIDE WHATS ULTIMATELY TO GO.
aT THE END OF THE DAY HE MODERATES ON BEHALF OF THE SITYE , NOT NECESSARILY THE USERS .
tHATS HIS JOB.
aND A BRIEF AND SENSIBLE EMAIL WOULD ACHIEVE BETTER RESULTS .
tO BE HONEST THE TCXL /REPORT QUESTIONS WERE STARTING TO DOMINATE THE SUGGESTIONS CATEGORY , AND WERE BAQSICALLY ALLL THE SAME.
