making pom poms

Not sure which topic to put under.

I am making a mane for a zebra that I have knitted for a 3yr old. I have two ways of making the pom pom 1, wrapping round fingers and 2, usin card.

I have done both ways and have pulled tightly and knotted but you can still pull the strands, as the 3yr old is doing.

Does anyone have any other ideas of making the mane or how to secure the pom pom together?
