Are you able to give an update and a guideline on what will and perhaps more importantly what will not be acceptable?

I agree with you that animated avatars may be distracting to the site and so have scored that one off my list.

Yes, but Answerbank is not like other sites now is it?

Also AB Ed said on another thread, that once you had chosen your Avatar you are stuck with it!
What sort of choice is that?
On another forum site I visit, you can change your Avatars daily if you wish.
From the sound of it,animated Avatars will not be accepted by the AB system,as their "image" size would be too large.
If animated avatars are a distraction does that mean animated adverts are to be consigned to the dustbin?

As to animated avatars being too large (file size), the animated 80x80 gifs I used for AnswerBank Beta were 4 to 6 KBs. The current 64x64 default "jelly" avatar is 5.7 KB
omg thats pretty bad if that is true then, only ONE avatar ever???!!!

My apology as I misquoted the Ed! I have read back on his Good Evening thread on Saturday. He actually said "Maybe it would be too busy?" but that they would discuss.

Surely this site is about interesting questions and answers, not interesting avatars? I for one would prefer not to see animated ones...like many others on here I can't see lines between Q'or A's on my computer so it's already pretty jumbled up without having dancing pictures as an added distraction.
I'm with you Robinia. Animated avatars drive me crazy! I think they would put me off using this site. I would like to be able to change the avatar now and again though.

I do see some adverts...not sure if it's all of them & yes, they are distracting too, but at least I can just about concentrate on the centre of the page...adding more animation would be too much.

I think that "busy" means "distracting"! :0]

I have a few in mind, a couple were chosen by my sons and would probably be unsuitable given that they are "toon" characters. The other
is one I used when I was on Facebook and is static.
Question Author
Hide the avatar would solve the problem yes.

And how about an "ignore this member" function for those that find that difficult to do of their own volition?
ooo charisse are we having an 'ignore this member' button???? How would that work and where do i sign up for that one???
Personally, I'm not bothered whether we have avitars or not, 'specially the animated ones! There are enough distractions on here at times as it is! ;o}

P.S. I didn't have any lines between answers until I upgraded to IE8. Much easier on the eye now!

Hope that helps.
