An option to not display avatars

Could there please be an option in the user profile to not display any avatars? A single line posting now takes up at least twice as much space when they are displayed compared to before, meaning that everything is now so spaced out and less cuddly. The novelty value of having user pictures will soon wear off.

They are the same size as the default you'd have seen previously.
But bandwidth might be a problem if on a slow connection, I suppose.

Thanks for reminding me - I'd forgotten that I'm using Ad-block to not display the default avatars, which means that I was only seeing the user name. Now all those those avatars which aren't the default are being displayed and it makes me remember why I blocked the default in the first place.

Oh well, I'll just have to block them one by one.

...but believe me the display is a lot more compact (and better imho) without avatars.

let me finish this thread off by telling anyone who doesn't want avatars displayed that if you block anything from www.gravatar.com in AdBlock then they all disappear.
