Mobile version

Would a mobile version of answerbank be possible for us crackberries and other smartphone owners?

I am not in any way advertising but several forums I use have enabled a mobile version using this:

i use it on my phone, but its a bit split apart visually, but it essentially works

It works on my blackberry but would work so much better in mobile format.

Yep, we do want an "app" for it, especially for the iPhone (we get the most mobile visits from iPhone users).

Mobile optimization might be better though as it would allow anyone to use the site on whatever they own.

I think the site is a bit "fiddly" on mobiles at the moment.

I'm glad you realise not all smart phones are iphones, Spare Ed. No reason why you can't do both an iPod app and mobilisation.

Yep, sounds like the best solution. Depends on time and money of course! We have other things to do first (usability changes to the main site and so on).

Just to the put the iPhone/Everything else ratio into perspective: we get around 40,000 iPhone visits a month and we get around 15,000 of everything else combined.

AB works well on the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad as it is. The one big problem is the number of links on each page. There are probably over 50, which does not lend itself to touch screen technologies. It is easy to catch a link, when you merely want to move about a page.

That is only really a problem on small screens. AB on the iPad is excellent, no problems, and Tablets look like taking off in a big way.

A lot of sites that have produced mobile apps, the result is a very poor user experience.
The BBC News app is very weak when compared to the main site. Newspapers are especially poor.
