Banned posters making a clean start
62 Answers
If a previously banned poster comes back under a new name (presumably this can be seen either by hints in the e-amil address, patterns in their way of typing or IP address) what is wrong with giving them a second chance to clean up their previously soiled act ?
I have seen many threads with worthy contributions from persons whose additions later get flagged up as "answer removed" and I think it's a shame if these are people who have slipped up once, got banned and are genuinely trying to make a clean start.

the first chatterbank only lasted about 9 months, it was a fun place to be and there were not rules, the editor was lame and took no notice of anything, actually when i joined in 2005 i don;t recall there being an editor just a technical system that could be used to remove posts, which happened alot and was sometimes annoying sometimes a laugh but CB was not the place it is now, it was fast, very fast, even on the old dial up you had to watch everthing there was not recent posts box and you had to keep up to see what was going on. the site is different technically now and the editor has a totally different purpose/role. the messing about people did back then, inclusing me, was something that was part of a new topic that had no rules in place. it was quite wild infact, the abuse people mention now is not from that time it is from when CB returned after almost a year, i stayed with ab after the first CB was removed and i didn't stray to alternative forums like most did, i stuck around and continued to ask for a chat topic. when it came back it was invaded by those that had left here because they were no longer able to run riot and they returned to take over and try to destroy CB again, they have failed.
I am not too bothered about about banned individuals returning to AB because, if they are rude, offensive etc. it is within the powers of us all to ignore their remarks and report them to the Ed.
What I am concerned about is the fact that it is possible for my Avatar to be copied and with an ever so slight alteration to my username (e.g. vivandorron to vivandoron.) a trouble maker could pretend to be my wife Viv and/or me.

I pretty much agree Ron. There's a poster today, for example, who's been on several times today who's clearly been on before under another name, and some users seem to know this and at least one person has hinted they know the user's identity. The postings I've seen seem fine so I don't see any problem with them staying. The problem starts for the Ed when, as Buenchico mentioned, a banned user starts dropping hints about their true identity and implies they are getting one over on the Ed.
It's me again folks.....I have found this thread very interesting and am wondering what your opinions are about genuine people who may have a double identity in AB.
I have in mind 'itsnotme' who has laid his cards on the table and from a single question and a series of answers has possibly proved a point about being able to set-up a new identity. Interestingly, he now has an Avatar which makes him appear to be quite an established member.
You may think that he is quite harmless. Personally, I do, but quite naturally, I would of course on reading his postings.
