backdated sickness pay

can i receive backdated sick pay from my main job. i went on the sick with then in march and have been receiving government statutory sick pay, they informed me yesterday that a mistake had been made on their part and that i was actually entitled to the sick pay after all. they have given me a form to fill in to send off to their insurers whom are Canada life in order to make the claim. the only problem is would Canada life be able to find out that i started work with another company in sept? i didn't inform my main employer of this, i was struggling to pay my mortgage as my company has left me with no money. Can canada life check my details such as n.i and tax? or will they just be checking to see that my sickness claim was legitimate via g.p? please can you help me, i dont know what to do, i dont want to get done for gross miss conduct but i also feel that i am entitled to money i should have been getting in the first place. thank you.

I would expect that the claim form will ask questions about your income while you were allegedly off sick from the first job. The claim form is a legal document so you would not be advised to lie. I would think - though I may be wrong - that (depending on the terms of the policy) they might pay you sick pay until you started the other job in September. More importantly IMO, did you still claim state sick pay after you started the other job? That also could be seen as fraudulent if you didn't tell the benefits office. I don't know what I'd do if I were in your position. It also occurs to me don't you have any sort of sickness cover relating to your mortgage, so you could have claimed off that when you were signed off sick, so your repayments were covered and you didn't have to struggle quite so much?
