Where is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardary?
14 Answers
I would really like to know where Hogwarts school in the Harry Potter books is in the world. It can be reached by the Hogwart's Express which lives from London's King Cross railway station, but where exactly is it?
I would think that it would be in the north of Scotland as it is many hours from London and it looks like that in the films.
Can any of you put me right on this matter and thanks once again for your replies?

Cant help with the castle as it is a clever model superimposed on that stunning landscape. The Hogwart's Express is a repainted old Great Western "Hall Class" locomotive which uses the North York Moors Railway, a fine preserved line which runs through some great scenery between Pickering and Whitby.

Glenfinnan Viaduct has been used as a location in several films and television series, most famously Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in which a substantial sequence revolves around the Hogwarts Express crossing the viaduct. Its appearances in two subsequent Harry Potter films, The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Goblet of Fire, has cemented the association of the viaduct with the film series.
Was on an open-top bus tour in Edinburgh and a public school was pointed out as the "original" Hogwarts. Makes a kind of sense as JKR belongs to Edinburgh.
