I've always read the classics - dickens, austen, dostoyevsky etc, when i was younger and with three kids couldn't find the time to read.
I needed something easy and not to dark, yet still intelligent and with a good story! The girls at work read girlie, trashy novels and i just couldn't get into them - (after two chapters, i really didn't care whether she married him or not!)
I loved connelly from the very start, (unfortunately, i read 'the drop' first!!)

His name is right in the middle and all the authors closest to the same theme and his way of storytelling are around him. Hope it helps.

Harlen Coben and Linwood Barclay both write good reads, Linda Fairstein, Kathy Reichs and Carol O'Connell are also very good. Patricia Cornwell's first 10 books or so are great, after that they sort of get boring, Lee Child's Jack Reacher comes heavily recommended though I haven't read them myself but they are on the to do list.
Forgot to put this link, it's a great site for book lovers

Chrissa1 Thanks very much for the literature-map.com link. A fascinating site - perfect for an author-junkie like me. I like to saturate myself with an author's entire output, then I'm left with nothing . . . so this site is going to be a lifeline.
rockyracoon - thanks for these sites too, very useful for what's new
