I have several sets of pre war 1920s German books that I want to dispose of. Any ideas of how I can do that in the UK ? I know there is a market for them in Germany but that involves high postage.

Vectis auctions will sell them for you
Do you have in the UK ethnic social clubs? If so, contact a German Club and inquire as to whether or not they might be interested in them.
Why should the postage cost concern you ?
Whoever is buying them will be paying postage ... wont they ?
I have the same problem modeller .Two crates full of German books inherited from my late in laws .Nobody seems to want them :(

Thanks for your suggestions. I do read German but these have just sat on the shelves for some years and I thought it was time to have a clear out.

I buy any light reading German books for myself at jumble sales.
These books of mine are in Gothic German print , in almost perfect condition but the subject matter is of little interest to me. I was given them from a house clearance. Some were great war stories but most were classics, including a set of Shakspears plays.
To get an idea of their value you can try this site. Some books you will look at and think that they will be worth loads only to find out that they are worth little or nothing. But I have seen me picking up a book that looks boring and falling apart and it has been sold for £100+

Thanks I've just tried that and they are valued at £15- £20 each .
Interesting !

shaneystar2 I've been reading through the answers you received in MAY 11
Did you follow them up with any success ?
//they are valued at £15- £20 each .// Because they are for sale at those prices does not, of course, mean you could get anything like that for them from a bookseller.

No I'm aware of that, you are lucky to end up with a third, but it does indicate they have more than scrap value. Judging by some of the titles I should imagine they once belonged to a post WWI socialist academic .

I followed up your suggestions and was able to give away 40 German books to http://www.betterworldbooks.co.uk/. They sent me the boxes and are picking them up today, 30th July. I believe you shaneysea2 may particularly find that interesting . Thanks all.
