My daughter bought me .. 'Dear worried Violet .. A peer at problem pages through the ages' & 'Aunt Epps guide for life .. from chastity to copper kettles, musings of a Victorian lady'

Spoil yourself! ;0)

Wish lists? One I fancy is ' Anger is an energy ... my life uncensored' John Lydon.
I bought a few actual books for people. A Sophie Kinsella for my sister, David Lloyd's book for OH and a science book for my son. I think my son would have preferred a Kindle version, but I thought it was nicer to get him a physical book rather than a notification that it was now on his Kindle. I'm old-fashioned like that.
I received a Richard Wiseman book.
I was given Stephen Fry / More Fool Me (anyone can have it, I wouldn't recommend buying); Bill Bryson Mother Tongue, well written but a little dated in its early chapters, still it was first brought out in 1991; Ha-Joon Chang / 23 things they don't tell you about capitalism (not read yet); and a baffling book about how to make knitted novelty characters, I may attempt a grasshopper in due course.
I always tell them not to buy books for me but they never listen and all were kindly meant anyway.
Either last year or year before - 3xcopies Casual Vacancy in hardback.....
Mosaic, your three copies of a book reminded me of the year that my dad got 3 copies of"Grumpy old Man". It's hard to find something that you know (or think) someone will like without everyone else thinking of the same thing.
A friend gave me Lady in the Van. I also picked up a few kindle daily deals. I intend to have a good mooch around Waterston's today,as they have 20% off everything.
Then I have to actually tackle the backlog of books on my kindle.
Lol Cloverjo my JK Rowling overbuy could have been so much worse!
I bought both.
Question Author
Hi Cloverjo, had to look up Sophie Kinsella .. chick lit .. a nice easy read. David Lloyd I also hadn't heard of ... googling comes up with a tennis player? If it's sports related that would be why I haven't heard of him ;0) Now the Richard Wiseman book would interest me, not that I've heard of him, but I love reading psychology! Got to say I prefer books on download to my Kindle than a hardback these days.
Question Author
Hi Mosaic, what didn't you like about Stephen Frys book? Bill Bryson is always entertaining. Ha Join Chang ... capitalism ... sorry I'm lost there! Knitted novelty characters, now I may have attempted that one. I too prefer to buy my own reading to be honest. You can't really say anything though can you when it's a gift x
Question Author
Hi Pasta .. Lady in the van .. brilliant! Love browsing the daily deals , there's some great buys on there. Did you buy anything in Waterstones?
Hi Elina, I'm not averse to a bit of Fry....but this book came across as a rather pompous retelling of earlier biographies, liberally sprinkled with name-dropping. The most engaging part of it was his description of become a cokehead. All in all I felt it was a pot-boiler.

Elina, this David Lloyd is the former cricketer, nicknamed Bumble. He is quite entertaining even if you don't like sport. Richard Wiseman has written lots of books you might enjoy, as you like psychology.

Ah o.k Mosaic.

Thanks Cloverjo .. knew I'd probably have that first one wrong. The Wise man books I would definitely find interesting x
If you're into conspiracies, fantasy and other wordly stuff, then you' ll probably enjoy reading Exit Darkness Enter Light. A well written book, first of a trilogy, by Kion Ahadi. I personally enjoyed it and couldn't put it down once I started. It's had a lot of good, well deserved write ups.
I bought a couple of books as presents - Bill Bryson, The Road to Little Dribbling and Bouquet of Memories by Mary Thomson (local author). Also bought myself a couple of books for my Kindle but have quite a backlog now which I must get through. Also got some Waterstone's vouchers as presents.
One of my personal sayings is 'I live in the darkness but look into the light'
I think I'll to have a read of that one. Never had an E-book, but much prefer paperbacks to hard backs.
I must confess despite having a Kindle, great for holidays, I prefer actual books.
Reading girl on the train. Good. Then will start on Disclaimer.
