i am trying to buy a dvd of a john mills film for my partner, in which john mills plays a village idiot type roll. the girls name in it is dolcima, my partner thought that was the title i have looked on various web-sites but have come up with nothing so maybe the film is called something else, i also beleive it is based in ireland does anybody out there please know the title

That sounds like it, Chris... but in Dulcima he wasn't a village idiot (a drunk I think), and it wasn't set in Ireland. Maybe two films in one here, 'Ryan's Daughter Dulcima'?

"Ryan's Daughter" - John Mills was awarded an Oscar as best supporting actor for his part as the village idiot. The way in which he contorted his face and his body was brilliant. However, the daughter was named Rosy. Sarah Miles was nominated for an Oscar as best actress, but didn't get it. The film did get one more Oscar for something, and you get Robert Mitchum and Trevor Howard thrown in for good measure.
"Dulcima" (with u not o) was filmed round about the same time, but it was based in England, and John Mills was a farmer. Definitely a drunken one, as jno says.
If you get the idiot one, you certainly won't be disappointed.
