I read a book as a child (mid 1970's) and would now love to read it to my daughter, but cannot remember the title or author and sadly my copy is no more! It was about a metal or wooden horse in a playground, which some children used to ride on. One day they turned up and the 'ride-on horse' had disappeared, but there was a real horse in the field. I guess the book was aimed at pre-school / young children and was fairly short as it was read at bed times. I remember the book had very appealing illustrations but that's all. A really sweet simple story and would love any ideas as to what it could be, pls contact with any info, thank you.

It might be 'Gigi: The Story Of A Merry-Go-Round Horse' by Elizabeth Foster.

The one I used to have in the 70's was about a merry-go-round horse. The book was called, 'The Dis-contented Pony' and was a ladybird book.

Thanks for the above answers, but not there yet? Any other suggestions would be really welcome. Thanks
oh this brought back memories. As soon as I read your question I could picture the cover of the book. However, my story which I read (early 70's) is the one on Amazon posted by spudqueen, (now has a very much updated cover) and there also was Gobbolina the witches cat which I also loved as a child.
Sorry couldn't help with your answer, but thanks for the memories!

Thanks for all replies so far, but the elusive book I am trying to remember hasn't been found yet. If anyone has any thoughts on it, then please leave your suggestions. Thanks so much.
