Teenage fiction novel series

This is driving me crazy! When I was a teenager, I once read a series of books all about a boy and a girl who experience a nuclear fallout then they experience journeys and finding ways to survive - the boy's name may have been Zack? I just remember the interesting descriptions about the landscape and enjoying the adventures, even though it was just a teenage romance! But I can't remember the author or the title(s)! I would love to read them again. Can anyone help me?

Another teen holocaust novel was Brother In The Land by Robert Swindells. Both brilliant
