I have wondered the same thing. But I have not gotten to read them in sequence, just whatever is in at the library.
I remember meeting Isabel when she was single in one of the books and thought, O this is who marries Harold. But, like you I missed the courtship and engagement.
Wonder if there are other Miss Read fans who want to chat aabout Fairacre and Thrush green.

Thanks WinnieBailey, it's nice to know that there are other like minded fans of Miss Read out there.
I think for me they represent an era that has long gone when everything was so much more straight forward. You didn't have political correctness hanging over you and could say what you really felt without worrying about offending anyone, of course people were offended and that's not good, but the freedom of speech was there.
Aside from that I enjoy the nature discriptions and the homour of Mrs Pringle.
All good stuff!

I think that with a hectic lifestyle Miss Read brings me back to center. "least said soonest mended" and not running into everyone's business and such.
My children say that nothing happens in the books, but it is all about life moving on and the accompanying changes. It is where I am.
What is your favorite and why?
