Forgot the book - about a young prostitute who attempts suicide...

About six years ago I read an intersting novel that I fell in love with but for the life of me, cannot remeber the title or author!
It was the story of a young troubled woman who I think lived in Europe. She suffered from some type of mental health issue, like depression, or bipolar disorder. She had also been a prositute and fell in love with one of her Johns. She also spent time at a hospital recovering from her suicide attempt and one of the young men in the hospital helped her to escape.
And there was a quote at the front of the book that stated, "If you want something badly enough, the whole universe will conspire to help you achieve it" or something like that...
The author was a man who has written at least three other books.
That is about all I remember.

Ok could buy hugely out here but sounds a little like Veronika decides to die by Paulo Coehlo, don't remember her being a prostitute but it's vaguely similar - good book even if it isn't the right one!
