Anyone know what book this is...?

I am trying to obtain a copy of a book I started to read about 7 years ago. The book is definately aimed at a teenage / young adult audience.
I have fairly bitty memories of the book, so what I remember may not be entirely accurate.
It starts in a very "28 days later" style with a teenager (I think it was a girl) returning to her home town after being away for the summer only to find the streets / shops / houses / etc completely empty. When she gets home she finds her parents dead on their bed and a note from them to her to explain that there was some kind of virus spreading that and that everyone was dying. They explain that the whole town has been quarantined and that she should try and escape if possible. Every exit (including the way she came in) from the town she finds guarded by soldiers and she cannot leave. She meets a boy who is still alive and he says that he has heard that there have been cases of the virus found in other places and it seems to be starting a country-wide epidemic. They then try and find an escape route together.
The book *may* have been a "point" book, and *may* have had a sequel, but I'm not too sure about either of these. If you could help me figure this out, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
