can anyone recommend any books from this series? I've already read "I Am Legend", "The Stars My Destination" which I thought were excellent, and "Cities In Flight" (less to my taste).

I love this series. I highly recommend:

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? - the film blade runner wasbased on this book.

The City and the Stars (my favourite Arthur C Clarke)

A Fall of Moondust

Ringworld - definitely this one!!!!

Thanks for that, I agree it seems a great series. All I'd read previously in sf, was Assimov and Heinlein so it's reawakend my interest in the genre. I've already ordered do androids dream, looked up ringworld and it looks like the start of a series - does it leave you hanging? as i dont really want to start a series at present.
IIRC Ringworld was written as a standalone novel, but when it sold well, sequels were added. I notice that there's another Alfred Bester on the list - well worth a look if you enjoyed "Stars".
