A friend of mine bought the "Dark Materials" trilogy to read over Christmas - trouble is - he's so far into them now, he'll be finished way before then :o( I said I'd ask the "Bank" if anyone can suggest any titles (any author) that might take away the inevitable withdrawl symptons........ :o)

Thank you Perigra - I'll pass that on :o)
There is a short add on book to this trilogy available called Lyra's Oxford. it contains a short story set after the events of The Subtle Knife. and fold out maps of Lyra's Oxford.
Also Philip Pullman's Sally lockhart books are very good starting with ruby in the smoke . :-D
That should have been "The Ruby In The Smoke":-D

Alison Croggon. -The Gift

I found it and i thought the front cover looked rubbish and the blurb sounded even worse.
But it was attually really good.
I read the next two and now they are my fave series of books even before HDM.
Alison is a poet so her style of writing it beautiful
