What should I read next?

I love mysteries and scary books. I recently have read all the Dexter books by Jeff Lindsay, the curious incident of the dog in the night-time by mark haddon, and I am legend. Do you have any good recommendations? I'm very into murderers and their point of view.

Would also recommend Graham Joyce for dark suspenseful books. Like previous answer - I like Mark Billingham also and Ian Rankin but hated Peter Robinson.. Also liked Michael Connolly and Dennis Lehane for American crime fiction. Kate Atkinson has written a couple of detective books- v amusing and well written.
Recommend the Charlie Parker books by John Connolly.
Detective stories with supernatural/horror twist.

Clive Barker writes strange, scary books. You could try "Weaveworld", "The Great and Secret Show" or "Coldheart Canyon" for starters.
I have just finished "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell" by Susanna Clark which isn't scary but very strange!
For really weird try "Kafka on the Shore" by Haruki Murakami

The Val McDermid books are an absolute must (made in the TV series 'Wire in the blood') As with all books the book is so much better than TV or film. They are great chilling murder mysteries, I very much enjoyed reading them. She is an excellent writer and her books are guaranteed to have you hooked.
