another book about time travelling love

Can someone please help I recently read a review of a book in one of the saturday papers that began 'if you liked the time travellers wife you will love this'. The book is about a doctor who has cancer and is given drugs by a medicine man that give him the ability to visit himself in the past basically to see where he went wrong. I now cannot remember the name of the book or the author, the mind is obviously going!!! I know the Time Travellers Wife is not liked by everyone but I loved it.
