Help me find a childrens book with poems/rhymes about horses

My girlfriend had a book read to her by her mum as a child and it would mean the world to her if we could find it..unfortunately she cannot remember the author/title.

It would have been about 1989 when it was read to her so I am guessing between 1970-1988 when it was published.. but I cannot be sure!
This is what she remembers...It was a childrens book(obviously) with poems/ryhmes about Horses, or with horses in them.She remembers the names of 2 of the poems:
1. Ride a **** horse to Banbury cross
2. Windy night.
she recalls another which may have had a highwaymen in it also.
The book cover was greyish in colour and had a horse on it (possibly with a female rider).
The one thing she is definate about is the fact that it had illustrations of hobby horses in the inner cover (on the back and front).
I really hope someone can help!
