For the love of Anne.

Does anyone remember this 1976 book about Jack and Ivy Hodges' autistic daughter, Anne? Anne was born in 1952 and her parents refused to accept the doctors' advice to put Anne into a home, choosing instead to bring her up themselves. Through their love, Anne was, effectively, 'cured' and went on to become a confident, capable young woman who had a job and drove a car.

I'd love to know what became of Anne. Is she still alive and well, does anyone know?

Hi, I remember this book so well and I too have wondered what became of Anne over the years. Unfortunately I have been unable to find out to date but will keep trying! We had a custom at school that every Friday afternoon our teacher would read a chapter of a book to us and this was one of the books she chose. I can't remember any of the others but I have never forgotten this one and have thought about Anne and her family over the years. I am now doing an NVQ on autism and would dearly love to know how Anne's story progressed. How brave Jack and Ivy Hodges were at a time when there was so little known about this condition but they stood firmly by their daughter and enabled her to live a life with meaning and quality. Will keep you updated on any progress I make.
