Help Finding a Specific Novel

I am hoping that one of you may be able to help me. I am looking for a novel that was written and set in the 1920's and/or 1930's. One or more of the characters (they don't have to be the main ones) must be unemployed, and the text must show the struggles that they have. (I have to show if they believe being unemployed is a social stigma in the twenties and thirties) I already have Virginia Woolf's Mrs Dalloway and Winifred Holtby's South Riding, but I need another novel to help compare and contrast. I’ve spent all day searching but have drawn a blank. Any help will be gratefully received. Thank you.

Thank you scotman, just Googled No Mean City, as you say it’s not a complete match, but I recon I will get some very good points out of it, and the fact that its set in Scotland means that I have three very different places to compare and contrast also. Woofgang will give abebooks a try; I often struggle to find relevant novels for a specific topic. Many thanks to both of you for your prompt replies.
