Can't believe JOEYSHABLYDO left out Neue Sachlichkeit. Call yourself a scholar, mate? (Also conceptual art, but that's not really a style, more a means of lying in bed thinking of cute things like bisected sharks then getting someone else to actually run them up for you while you collect the cheques.)

Sorry, I assumed that Neue Sachlichkeit was covered by my inclusion of Magic Realism. Do you think they are different styles?

oh yes, you're right JOEYSHABLYDO - I'd been thinking of magic realism as a 1940s American thing, but a little googling shows it's also a 1920s German thing. My apologies for ever doubting your scholarly thoroughness.

It's debatable.

I thought there would be more argument here about what is actually a movement and what is really a style.

If you really look hard at that list and study it in depth, it becomes much harder to go and have a look at Damien's 'The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living' without just a little apprehension.
