see your re-quote now bednobs and as I said, I retract the barbed comment. Beats me as to why I haven't seen them, even on the refreshes. Glitch somewhere and I have never seen this before.
I'm trying to work out hy his dark materials rings a bell, I don't think I've read it... Perhaps time for a google.

My favourite book will change depending on my mood but in recent years, the one that stands out the most is We Need to Talk about Kevin... I both love and hate it and think it is cleverly written. Everytime I read it, I find something else more in it and understand it better. However, my dislike of the two main characters is immense... But then that's why it's outstanding to me, because of the strong reaction.
Question Author
his dark materials is a trilogy, and actually it's not the name of any of the books in it
My opinion of my favourite book would alter the moment that I hit the 'Submit' button....
But Pride and Prejudice is one book that I regularly consider as being the one that I can re-read time after time after time after.....etc..
Question Author
have you ever read pride and prejudice and zombies, Jack?
'his dark materials is a trilogy, and actually it's not the name of any of the books in it'

^^^ Now she tells me... <eye roll> ;oP

Actually, just googled his dark materials and found the golden compass which I've seen on DVD, (I like the bear), it must be that which is ringing the bells :c)
Question Author
the film is shhhhhhh compared to the book
I can't say I have, bednobs.............and what would it be about ? :o)
doherty.............william mcilvaney,
I enjoyed His Dark Materials too ( 3 books The subtle knife, the amber spyglass and another one I cant recall atm) just read them again.
My all time best read is The Riddle of the Sands by Erskine Childers, very atmospheric to me, I must have read it five or six times.

DT good job you have retracted horses can be very high, and the harder you can fall too, 2 smileys appeared at 20.38 with bednobs post. She did ask for the best book you have ever read, not the b;***dy library.
"The Amber Spyglass" is a superb book inspired by Paradise Lost.
Book sounds sci-fi/fantasy and I'm generally not a big fan... Although I know a man who is at the office and I reckon he could let me have a go... Would it be worth it if I'm not generally a sci-fi/fantasy person?
Question Author
not sure. at it's heart it's a cracking story
I enjoyed them all, CD.
You have to be willing to accept a 'bookscape' where a lot of things aren't 'explained', which I felt was a bold move for books written for younger people.....
askyourgran - I am still not showing any smileys on that post. Got it!!

and I gave just a 1,2,3, and then some category leaders. There are a bunch of literary philistines/pedantics around tonight......

I am fecking off if no one is capable of (i) recognising that there can be gremlins in the system and (ii) not to have a sensible debate to what is a good question and some of the material that pops forth.

Mini flounce (that does not necessitate a form), just this thread for obvious reasons.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out..............
MMmmm... UNexplained things... I HATE that lol... Well if you both say it's a decent story then it might be worth a punt. I shall make enquiries in the office tomorrow.
The Count of Monte Cristo, probably or Buttons - the making of a president
The Name Of The Rose - Umberto Eco
That's a good one JJ.
