Help with tracing a book

Trying to find a book I read many years ago . The only things I can remember it was set in London ( 99 % sure ) on a building site to start and they found a pit full of skeletons after digging some land . Not much to go on sorry but help .

I remember the T.V. series back in, I think1957, I was about 10 years old and it scared the Sugar out of me

Quatermass and the Pit is just too scary. In the olden days there was no big budget and computer special effects - just a good film and a vivid imagination.

I have tried looking around but nothing - or too many possibilities came up.

When was the book set? When did you read it? Was it a sci-fi book or a thriller? Are the 'goodies' police or military?

Any small details will help.

It sounds like a Peter James book I read years ago - I can't remember the name offhand though.

Didn't they uncover an old drain on the building site, and the skeleton was in the drain, because it hadn't washed out to sea?

(although it was actually set in Brighton).

To be honest JJ, I haven't a clue :) I can't really remember much about it at all - the OP's description just made me think of it.
