David Hockney

Gosh, Bummie that was quick!! Thank you.
Welcome. I hope it's right!
And if it ever crops up, Terence Cuneo always painted a mouse somewhere in his paintings.
Question Author
I cannot get confirmation that it was David Hockney, I have looked at a few of his paintings and cannot see any dogs. I know Cuneo always hid the mouse away in his paintings but surely it would be too difficult to hide a dog!
I think there is one where the dog is on/under a chair and another where it is at the side of a swimming pool. I will try to get confirmation.
Before I go to bed, I thought it was Reubens, will check back tomorrow.
Sorry, it could be Whistler
could be Coolidge

could be lots of people, really; dogs are quite common in art. Titian painted lots of spaniels; if you're looking for a famous artist, it could be him
It's a bit of a silly question... but at the Norman Rockwell exhibition earlier this year I was struck by how many of his works featured a personality-full dog somewhere. So my answer would be him - or, more obviously, George Rodrigue.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Not "A silly question" but a question from a quiz paper.
The fact that it's in a quiz does not preclude it being a silly question! It clearly is a VERY silly question as there cannot possibly be one correct answer.
I think Sir Edward Landseer takes the (dog) biscuit.
