Fauvism describes the vibrant expressionist movement in art of the early part of the twentieth century. The main protagonists were called fauves or wild beasts because of their passionate unbridled style of painting. Fauvism is characterised by natural forms and vibrant oclours. The main exponents of fauvism were Henri Matrisse, Andre Derain, Georges Braque, Albert Marquet and Henri Manguin.
