Children's Storybook from the 80s

I'm desperately trying to remember the name of a children's book from the 80s. It was illustrated with a small boy who wore a long night gown and carried a dog toy. He also got sick and ended up with measles or chickenpox, I can vaguely remember him in bed having his temp taken with a thermometer. I'm sure he climbs into a grandfather clock and falls asleep. Does anyone know what this story is as it's driving me mad!
