Why does Niemans, played by the ever excellent Jean Reno) have a fear of dogs? My copy, recorded from TV. Breaks up picture and sound in the final minutes!

Warum hat Pierre Angst vor Hunden?

Das wird auch im Buch nicht erklärt. Pierres Angst vor Hunden hat im Film einen viel größeren Stellenwert. Im ganzen Buch ist kaum ein Hund zu sehen. Der Krankenpfleger experimentierte nicht mit Hunden, sondern mit Ratten

It's not adequately explained either in the film or the book. The Director deliberately withdrew any explanation of anything as he felt it was ' boring' and didn't challenge the audience enough until even the actors themselves couldn't make sense of it. Work that out.
