I'm no expert but I would have thought 'Hamlet' is generally considered to be his finest work.

Personally I think you'd have to split it by genre and have a best comedy, best tragedy or whatever.

Hamlet is generally viewed as being Shakespeare's best plays.  It combines tragedy with comedy, sex and violence, revenge.  People seem to remember more quotes from it than any other of his plays.

It invariably seems to come down to a contest between 'Hamlet' and 'King Lear' as far as dramatic critics are concerned. My personal favourite is 'Macbeth'.
