I have 4 pencil drawings of action in the desert, that were left to my husband by his father who saw action at Tobruk.

I think they are very good.

How/where could I get them valued by someone who is not going to "rip me off"? Thanks.

I forgot to say that they were sketched at the "front". One being drawn on the back of piece of cardboard that was probably a biscuit box, maybe sent by the army/Red Cross to the boys fighting.
Whether or not you're simply concerned with their commercial value, I think you should at least get in touch with the Imperial War museum...
The big name London auction houses (Sotheby's, Christie's, Bonham's etc) are very honourable and a call to one of them will give you an early idea of whether it is worth getting them apparaised.
Many of them have regional reps if you are a long way from the smoke. Provincial auction houses are a bit hit and miss - you might get a good one but.....
If you are not in a rush try a few phone calls.
I too have pencil drawings done by my father in North Africa but they are of port scenes and erm.... scantily clad young gels which were pinned up on the barracks walls - I wouldn't part with them for anything.
