I think Tony is referring to the late Barbara Cartland, step-grandmother to the late Princess of Wales.
Yep, mike that's her.
I concur with dotty, mills and boon are very popular, when I worked at the library years ago there was a daily stampede for the m&b books, not to mention they also had large print versions that used to fly off the shelves!
And here`s me thinking The Pink Thing was another book Tony.

Hi Dave. Looking for Book Club ideas?
His eyes glistened, his throat went dry and his heart started to beat a little faster as he feasted his glance on the object of his desire.

There it lay, glistening, its roseate hue delicately offset by the gentle pink surrounding. Gently he touched it, thrilling at the feel of its soft furriness.
"Dare I go further?" he thought to himself, yet at the same time his mind was telling him that this was so very wrong, that the brain should conquer the heart and not surrender to the weakness of the flesh. For a moment he was fortified by his own resolution, but, alas, that moment was only too brief. Just as Orpheus glanced back at Eurydice on her ascent from the gateways of Hell, only to lose her for evermore, so did our hero turn his eyes once again, fatally, towards the object of his desire.

This time there was to be no reprieve; try as he might he just had to ignore the voice of his conscience saying, "Stop!" With a feeling of overwhelming doom he knew that he had no choice but to surrender to the demands of the moist, glistening object lying before him. With a scarcely muttered prayer to the Almighty for forgiveness, he bent his mouth towards the holy grail and slowly parted his lips.

After what seemed to him like a lifetime of ecstasy he rolled onto his back and said,

"Nice peach that, must remember to get a few more next time I'm in Tesco's"
