I was tuning an old black and white TV, with the back off, I glanced round to see if the picture was getting better (I was scared I might miss my programme ) and my hand slipped. I was thrown across the room and smashed into the door. That was a massive shock !

I came down in the middle of the night because I could hear voices in the lounge, I knew the TV was off because I'd unplugged it before going to bed. It was all dark as I walked in the lounge- then a voice shouted out and I jumped out of my skin. It turned out the plugged-in baby monitor was somehow picking up a neighbour's CB radio conversation
I was woken one night by a terrific crash, which I thought must be someone smashing the glass in the kitchen door. I had 3 little boys to protect, so I made my way round the house searching. I left the kitchen to last, in case of getting on the wrong side of an intruder. In the near-dark could see the glass was unbroken, but a big white thing was lying on the floor. I dared to turn the light on, and found that the white thing was the diffuser from the kitchen neon light.
But the most extraordinary thing which had happened was that, as it fell, this long lump of plastic had turned tha gas on on the cooker. If I had left the problem much longer, I could have had an explosion when the heating came on. It took half an hour of airing the kitchen with the windows open before I could go back to bed.

I was in work by myself - big old building - when I heard footsteps cross the room upstairs. It didn't worry me, there was a wee homeless man used to come in sometimes and I assumed it was him. It was closing time though so I started to lock up with the intention of getting him out after I had done everything downstairs. I went to close one of the shutters when suddenly all the hair on the back of my neck went up and I HAD to get out of the building. I quickly locked everything and got as far away as quickly as I could. Over the weekend I got more worried I had locked someone in but there was no one there. About a year later the exact same thing happened to a caretaker and I had never told her the story.....

When I was living in the countryside in greece I discovered there was a rat in the house. As my then husband snored away I crept outside and pressed my face against the glass door of the spare bedroom he used for storage .The
door had a piece of wood running halfway across it.As I was scarily peering in the rat appeared on the wooden slat the other of the glass! It's beady eyes stared into mine and I jumped out of my skin. Some sights never leave you.Yuk
